Oluce wins the lighting category in the Archiproducts Design Awards 2017 (ADA) with the Berlin lamp designed by
Christophe Pillet, presented at the last edition of Euroluce..An international jury, consisting of 40 personalities from some of the most renowned international architectural firms together with the ADA team, have selected the winners for the different categories from out of over 600 products. The prize is an iconic object designed by the Spanish MUT Design Studio and has been awarded to the products that stand out for their innovative character, aesthetic, quality and manufacturing techniques as well as for their symbolic and emotive content.
Berlin is, in fact, an item that calls into question the common perception of the ceiling light, turning the usual discreetness of this type of lamp upside down, to transform it into an elegant and decorative feature. Available in the ø40 ceiling version or the ø30 version for use either as a ceiling light or wall light, Berlin takes the form of a thick metal ring with a slender profile enclosing a disc of wire mesh glass inside it. It comes with brushed brass finish with echoes of Art Deco, yet it’s been given a contemporary update through its designed forms and the use of LEDs as light source.
It was 1967 when
Joe Colombo designed Coupé, at the apex of a decade marked by his close collaboration with Oluce.Initially designed as a variant of the Spider theme, over the years Coupé was produced in different versions and became one of Oluce’s most popular and best known collections.
Today a full-fledged icon of lighting and Italian design, in 1968 Coupé was awarded in Chicago the International Design Award by the American Institute of Interior Designers. The lamp is included in the permanent collections of–among others–New York’s MoMA and the Neue Sammlung Museum in Munich.
To celebrate Coupé’s 50th anniversary, Oluce has created a special edition of an object that stood the test of time and fashions to become a classic of interior design.
The new version of the classic floor lamp style produced by Oluce is available in a limited edition of 500 numbered pieces, featuring a sleek, gold trimmed finish and the 50th anniversary engraving on the base.
Superluna has won the prestigious 2018 German Design Award, an award that was first launched in 2012 and is promoted by the German Design Council for the purpose of discovering and presenting the most innovative projects in the field of design.
A jury comprised of over 40 experts from various disciplines – industrial design, science, academic and financial fields – presented Superluna with the award in the ‘lighting’ category, once again confirming Oluce’s innovative and pioneering spirit. In fact, with over 70 years of experience in the field of illumination, the company boasts a solid background of technical and lighting engineering skills, in addition to a style that has become a true signature trademark. Unusual materials, unique shapes, and new lighting sources have, over time, brought revolutionary projects to life, rewriting the history of lighting since the 1950s.
Superluna is a project by Victor Vaisilev inspired by his personal reflections on the work of Vico Magistretti, in particular on his ability to develop iconic shapes that exalted the potential of the lighting source. Now that LED technology has revolutionized the world of artificial lighting, making it possible to reinvent lighting systems right down to their very source, Vasilev has created a family of lamps – available in floor, table, and wall-mounted versions – that originate from the desire to give a magical aura to an extremely technical light, by sizing the lamp parts starting with the LED footprint.
Superluna’s thin metal rod conceals the electrical components and hosts the source of light: the LEDs open up along the stem, in correspondence with the semi-spherical domes which reflect their light and rotate around an axis. The echo of the perpetual movement of celestial bodies is thus exalted by the small, luminous core contained within the structure of the lamp itself. In addition to black, this year a new and sophisticated version with a gold finish is also available.
The ILO range, designed by David Lopez Quincoces, has three variations: suspension lamp, rise and fall suspension lamp and wall light. All the models share the same elegant, slender design of the aluminium bar housing the light source, expertly crafted with precision mechanics. In the Ilo suspension lamp, the bar is divided into two parts by colour. The first gives the effect of a handle, while the second houses the long LED bulb. The generous size of this model is in harmonious contrast with its slim profile.
